Don't Let The Vacation Pull You From Jesus
This was a warning to the many young adult
leaders involved in the Encuentro Project. I believe it is important for us to keep the love of Jesus burning in our hearts.
That warning was clear - Don't let the fire in our hearts die, ESPECIALLY through the summer vacation.
I just wanted to make some recommendations to keep the fire burning. This can be helpful for those who are not going away for vacation and are going to be working in their parishes.
1. Daily Mass - If you can, make it to daily Mass and make a special offering for the work God is calling us to do and that He would prepare our hearts.
2. Visit Jesus in the Eucharist - Even if it is for 30 minutes or an hour, give Him your time and attention. And if you can't find Him for Adoration, just sit before Him in front of the Tabernacle. Best times for me were during my lunch breaks. So what if I gave up 20 - 30 minutes of lunch, I visited my truest Love, Jesus.
3. Spend 15 minutes in prayer with the Scriptures. Reflect on the mission the Lord has called you for - that is to build the Civilization of Love.
4. Get into the habit of praying the Rosary daily. Do 2 decades in the morning and in the afternoon or evening complete the rest of the Rosary. Many youth and young adult leaders tell me that praying the Rosary in the park or when walking to a destination has helped them to gain focus. It has also helped them to live out the Gospel during the day.
5. Pick up a Religious Book. I remember when David Wilder from the Lumen Institute, came to Theology on Tap NYC asked all the young adults this question, "When was the
last time you ever picked up a religious book to read? Did you ever finish it?" Get into the habit of reading about the Catholic Faith. Fr. Joe recommended to us the Bible, even reading bible commentaries at the same time. How about the Catechism of the Catholic Church - you know as youth and young adult leaders we could create awesome talks and dynamics for future group meetings, just by reading and studying. How about reading the Lives of the Saints or maybe reading of one saint, probably the saint you picked for your confirmation. Read Spiritual books – my favorite for summer time reading is the "Imitation of Christ". You can get this book in Spanish and English at your local Religious bookstore. If you need help in finding a bookstore nearest you check out our web site for local Catholic Book Stores:

Just ideas to help us come closer to Jesus this summer. We gave this recommendation to the Pastoral Juvenil Norte Manhattan a long time ago. Hope it can help.
Off to Bed!
God bless you guys
